Everyone knows those white crosses that line our roads, the artificial flowers, the pinwheels blowing in the wind; reminders of where some loved-one’s life has passed.
When driving a car, where you look is where you drive; around corners, past oncoming traffic, over a narrow bridge. But what happens when you are in an emergency situation, skidding off the road and you see a power pole up ahead? Can you focus and aim for the clear space around it? Or do you stare in horror at the pole as you speed towards it?
Sometimes when we see a problem in our lives we focus on that problem so intensely and so fearfully that we become blind to all the space around it.
Thanks to the Papers Past Website for access to the old New Zealand newspapers that I used to make the collage above.
